History

Historical Context

In 2008 the Narcotics Control Bureau seized 1,500 kg of heroin at Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port, prompting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to allocate Rs 1,000 crore for a nationwide anti-drug drive as UNODC warned of a 30 % trafficking rise. The 2024 arrest of Punjab constable Karandeep Singh with 15 kg of heroin shows the same smuggling routes once tied to David Headley, highlighting ongoing police collusion.
