History

Historical Context

In the 2005 UEFA Champions League final, Liverpool erased a 3-0 halftime deficit against AC Milan to win dramatically on penalties. Rafa Benítez’s side scored three goals in six minutes, with Steven Gerrard netting the equaliser at 60 minutes, sparking a 3-3 tie. Similarly, Real Madrid overturned a 3-1 shortfall against Roma in 2024, with Carlos Espi, Endrick and Antonio Rüdiger scoring within ten minutes. Both comebacks underscore how rapid goal bursts reshape Champions League narratives, prompting clubs to prioritize aggressive late-game tactics.
