Matthew Carroll’s Alleged Five-Year Deception Across the UK

By Drooid · · How we work

Who Is Matthew Carroll?

Matthew Carroll has presented himself as a football manager, chef, and boyfriend, and has even claimed a starring role in a Marvel film. Over the past five years, a BBC investigation uncovered a pattern of falsehoods that spanned personal, professional, and financial realms. Carroll’s acquaintances, who remain anonymous for safety, describe him as a charismatic figure who repeatedly gained their trust before disappearing.

Alleged Fraudulent Activities

Friends in Sheffield discovered a torn loan-company letter demanding repayment of more than £1,300, a bank card in a friend’s name, another in his girlfriend’s name, and creditor letters totaling over £16,000. The same flatmates reported that Carroll had accessed their personal data, using a shared passport to conduct at least 18 credit searches without permission. He also claimed that a joint venture, Huntsman Media, was thriving, despite bills remaining unpaid and business accounts appearing empty.

Financial Impact on Victims

The individuals who spoke to the BBC collectively allege losses approaching £50,000. One flatmate, Greg, says he contributed £2,500 to the alleged business account and, after confronting Carroll for proof of the funds, was told “basically refused.” Greg adds that the confrontation was the last conversation he ever had with Carroll, who subsequently left the flat and has not been seen since. A group chat among the friends now circulates warnings to check personal credit histories after the discovery.

Response and Ongoing Investigation

Carroll has not responded to any of the allegations. The BBC investigation, which refrains from naming the accusers, highlights the difficulty victims face in verifying the authenticity of personal and financial claims made by individuals who operate across multiple guises. Authorities have been alerted, and the investigation continues as more potential victims are encouraged to review their credit records.
