History

Historical Context

On 26 March 2015 Saudi Arabia led a nine-nation coalition into Yemen after President Hadi fled, launching Operation Decisive Storm against the Houthi movement. The intervention, framed as a deterrent in the Saudi-Iran proxy war, shifted to a stalemate and a 2022 ceasefire, yet Houthi missile strikes on Riyadh’s King Khalid Airport and the activation of the Mecca Pact show the original security concerns persist.
