History

Historical Context

During NATO’s 78-day Operation Allied Force (24 March-10 June 1999), the alliance flew over 26,000 sorties and coordinated them from a Combined Air Operations Centre in Vicenza, highlighting the need for reliable communications. Today Ukraine’s war faces a similar risk: President Zelensky warns that U.S. Starlink outages could cripple operations, echoing the 1999 lesson that communication disruption reshapes battlefield logistics.
