History

Historical Context

On 13 March 1996, Thomas Hamilton entered Dunblane Primary School and killed 16 children and a teacher, prompting the Cullen Report’s call for stricter handgun rules. The Major government responded with the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997, banning private handguns across England, Scotland and Wales. That reform shapes today’s Police Scotland response to a 17-year-old’s stabbing on Ashgill Road, reflecting ongoing concerns about youth violence.
