History

Historical Context

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Make in India campaign in 2014, pledging $1.5 trillion of foreign investment and easing licence rules to spur domestic manufacturing. The initiative attracted firms such as Samsung, Foxconn and Logitech, which announced a $30 million keyboard and webcam plant in Manesar. The new facility embodies the campaign’s goal of cutting India’s imported hardware share from 70 % toward 40 %.
