History

Historical Context

In the 1991 Gulf War, Iraq fired 46 al-Husayn Scud missiles at Saudi and U.S. targets between 18 January and 26 February, killing 28 American service members and prompting a multinational air-defense response. Today Houthi missile and drone strikes on Riyadh airport and Aramco compel Saudi Arabia to reposition interceptors as stocks dwindle. The danger has spurred Iranian mediation offers and U.S. aviation advisories.
