History

Historical Context

After Yitzhak Rabin first urged a separation fence in 1992, Israel began building the West Bank barrier in 2002 under Ariel Sharon, completing a structure that runs about 85 % inside the occupied West Bank and cut suicide bombings from 73 (2000-July 2003) to 12 (2003-2006). The International Court deemed it illegal in 2004, a legacy that shapes Benjamin Netanyahu’s 2026 Jordanian-wall proposal.
