History

Historical Context

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia launched a coalition air campaign against Houthi rebels in Yemen, aiming to restore President Hadi’s government. The coalition deployed over 100 aircraft, delivering more than 5,000 precision strikes and allocating $4.3 billion in U.S. military aid that year. Today’s October 2026 missile and drone assault on Aden’s Al-Maashiq palace echoes those early strikes, targeting Saudi-linked facilities and disrupting UN humanitarian corridors. The pattern underscores how the 2015 intervention entrenched a cycle of retaliation, prompting intensified regional security measures and prolonged civilian suffering.
