History

Historical Context

In 1999 the Dallas Stars clinched their first Stanley Cup when Brett Hull scored a triple-overtime winner in Game 6 against the Buffalo Sabres, one of only 17 series decided by an overtime goal. The controversial crease call prompted a rule change the next season, and the pattern of decisive overtime heroics continues today, as seen in the Panthers’ recent overtime clincher.
