History

Historical Context

Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea sparked a NATO backlash, with the alliance condemning the move, suspending practical cooperation and deploying forward battlegroups in the Baltic states and Poland. The UN General Assembly voted 100-11-58 in March 2014 to deem the referendum invalid. The recent Turkish cargo-ship drone strike off Romania revives those tensions as NATO confronts Russian UAV activity in the Black Sea.
