History

Historical Context

In January 1998, the Denver Broncos captured Super Bowl XXXIII, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-19 to clinch the franchise’s second championship. Head coach Mike Shanahan orchestrated a 14-2 regular-season record, while quarterback John Elway threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns. That decisive triumph mirrors today’s overtime win, as Denver again relies on a defensive turnover and a long field goal to edge a rival. The pattern underscores Denver’s historical reliance on clutch special-team play, suggesting future playoff positioning may hinge on similar high-pressure performances.
