iOS 27.2 Beta Introduces Three New Features

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27.2 release, still in beta, brings three distinct updates that were not present in earlier betas. The changes affect the Messages app, the Home app’s smart-lock controls, and the visual design of Apple Music.

Expanded “Suggestions” Controls in Messages

The Messages app now includes a “Suggestions” feature that was originally slated for iOS 27.0 but was removed from the summer beta. In iOS 27.2 beta 4, users can enable or disable five types of suggested actions—Add to Calendar, Add to Reminders, Add to Notes, Show in Maps, and Flights and Packages—via Settings -> Apps -> Messages -> Suggested Actions.

New Smart-Lock Options in the Home App

Following a week of Home-related announcements that also introduced the HomeView, Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2, and the Apple Home collection, the iOS 27.2 beta adds two smart-lock settings. The “Lock After Closing” option lets users set how quickly a compatible lock re-engages after a door closes. The “Door Left Open” notification lets users choose alerts for doors left open for 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes, or turn the alert off entirely.

Apple Music Visual Redesign

iOS 27.2 beta 4 also modifies Apple Music’s appearance. The app’s iconic red accent color has been removed; icons are now black-and-white, widgets no longer use red backgrounds, and the tab bar now highlights the active tab in blue rather than red. The redesign appears to be part of a broader rebranding effort for Apple Music.

Early User Reception

Online commentary on the Music redesign has been largely negative, with many users expressing disappointment over the loss of the red branding. No official response from Apple has been reported at this stage, leaving it unclear whether any of the visual changes will be adjusted before the final release.
