United are uncertain whether Martinez’s contract will be renewed when it expires next summer, Sky Sports reports.

Supporters have urged director Jason Wilcox to hold a media day and explain the summer recruitment strategy.

History

Historical Context

When Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, Manchester United hired David Moyes, and the club finished seventh, missing Champions League qualification since 1992. During that season, United recorded a club-record 13 draws and lost 12 of 38 league matches, prompting director Ed Woodward to overhaul recruitment. Today, caretaker manager Michael Carrick faces similar squad instability, with Lisandro Martínez’s contract dispute and Jason Wilcox’s transfer strategy echoing the 2013 overhaul. If United fails to resolve these issues, the club risks prolonged absence from European competition, mirroring the revenue decline of the post-Ferguson era.
