History

Historical Context

In 1998, the Denver Broncos captured Super Bowl XXXIII, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34–19 in John Elway’s final game, cementing a legacy. Coach Mike Shanahan emphasized a defense that forced 28 turnovers that season-long, while quarterback John Elway posted a 71.4 passer rating overall. Today's overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks, highlighted by Wil Lutz’s 53-yard field goal and critics like Ben DiNucci, mirrors 1998’s reliance on defense and offensive yardage. The pattern suggests Denver’s franchise identity hinges on clutch special-team plays and defensive pressure, shaping future quarterback evaluations and fan expectations.
