History

Historical Context

The 1999 Columbine massacre by seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold sparked nationwide school-security reforms and the “Columbine effect,” leading to over 70 copycat attacks by 2025. Teen-led shootings then rose from 13 incidents in 1999 to more than 200 by 2026, a trend reflected in the October 15 2026 Silver Rail Elementary attack stopped by Kaylub Giamanco.
