History

Historical Context

In 1994, Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America” produced a 54-seat swing that gave Republicans their first House majority since 1952 and flipped the Senate and dozens of state offices. The realignment moved Southern white conservatives out of the Democratic “Solid South,” and today’s Georgia rally with Donald Trump and Senate candidate Mike Collins mirrors that mobilization as GOP hopefuls chase similar enthusiasm.
