History

Historical Context

The 2016 United States presidential election on November 8, 2016 delivered Donald Trump’s unexpected victory, igniting a wave of high-profile campaign rallies across the nation. Reuters/Ipsos later reported that 63 % of registered voters approved his performance during the first year, while 34 % disapproved. In 2026, Trump echoed that 2016 rally energy by speaking in Wasilla, Alaska, backing Senator Dan Sullivan, while Susan Collins and challenger Troy Jackson sparred over bipartisan claims amid climate-protest disruptions. The pattern suggests that early-election rally dynamics continue to shape voter sentiment, prompting future campaigns to monitor poll swings and protest impacts closely.
