History

Historical Context

In 2015 the Cardinals selected running back David Johnson in the third round, 86th overall, after missing a planned pick on Ameer Abdullah. Johnson’s early career was hampered by injuries—including a fractured tibia and a dislocated wrist—that limited his production. The 2026 rookie Jeremiyah Love now faces a similar ankle setback, prompting the franchise to revamp its medical protocols for young backs.
