History

Historical Context

In March 2002 Israel launched Operation Defensive Shield, the largest West Bank offensive since the 1967 war, deploying about 30,000 troops and imposing curfews on six cities to dismantle terrorist networks. The sweep cut suicide bombings by roughly 46 percent and set a precedent for security raids, such as IDF-Shin Bet operations in Ramallah and Yatta that mirror the 2002 focus on Hamas-linked computers and finances.
