Park staff reopened the two-acre Land of the Tigers enclosure with security patrols on the 15-ft walkway.
The perimeter fence features an electrified strip one metre above the top rail.

Reopening day drew sparse crowds, many of whom photographed Altai in the sunshine.

History

Historical Context

The 2024 tiger breach at Yorkshire Wildlife Park follows a string of U.S. zoo incidents, notably the 2007 San Francisco Zoo escape that killed a teen and prompted AZA’s first visitor-fatality warning. Between 1998 and 2001, U.S. zoos recorded seven fatal tiger attacks, underscoring longstanding safety gaps. Doncaster Council’s renewed security reflects this historic pattern.
