Indian Army Foils Infiltration Attempt in Kupwara’s Keran Sector

By Drooid · · How we work

Core Event

Early on Saturday, Indian Army patrols in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, detected movement near Jumgund village close to the Line of Control (LoC). Soldiers engaged a group of armed infiltrators, resulting in a brief exchange of fire at around 3 am. The encounter ended with the death of two militants, according to officials. Following the clash, security forces launched a combing operation to “sanitize” the area and determine whether any infiltrators remained.

Ongoing Search Operations

The Army has expanded the search into the nearby forest, deploying additional troops from the army, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to sweep the terrain for any remaining militants or weapons. A police spokesperson confirmed that the joint team is conducting a thorough investigation, though the Indian Army has not yet released an official statement on the incident.

Recent Related Incidents

The failed infiltration follows a series of security actions along the LoC. Days earlier, a mine blast in the Krishna Ghati sector killed four terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mohammad Faizan, as they attempted to cross into Poonch district. An IED explosion was also reported in the Satwal-Naki area of the same sector, with casualties initially unconfirmed. Earlier this month, security forces uncovered an old hideout in Handwara forest, seizing an AK-47, grenades, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

Official Responses

While the Indian Army has not issued a formal comment, local officials emphasized that the rapid response prevented any infiltration into the Keran Valley. Police and army personnel continue to search for possible militant bodies and additional weapons. The operation underscores ongoing vigilance along the historically active Keran infiltration route.
