History

Historical Context

Rowling’s June 2020 essay criticizing new trans activism triggered a wave of backlash, including Daniel Radcliffe’s public support for trans women and Warner Bros.’ statements emphasizing LGBTQ inclusion. In July 2020 she joined a Harper’s-Magazine open letter signed by about 150 figures defending free debate.
