Incident Overview

Vancouver police reported three separate, unprovoked assaults that occurred in different parts of the city within a single day. The attacks involved distinct suspects and victims of varying ages and took place in the early morning, around midday, and early evening.

Early-Morning Assault at Victory Square

At approximately 6:10 a.m., a 73-year-old woman waiting in line for a recycling-cup program at Victory Square on West Hastings Street was approached by a suspect attempting to steal bags of recyclable cups. When the woman intervened, the suspect punched her in the eye, pushed her to the ground, and fled eastbound on West Hastings near Cambie Street with one bag. Police said the victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. The suspect was described as a woman in her 30s with shoulder-length dirty-blonde hair, wearing a black jacket, white sweater, black pants and white shoes.

Midday Assault Near Commercial Drive

Around 12:30 p.m., a 44-year-old man speaking on the phone near Commercial Drive and Adanac Street was confronted by a male suspect who made racist remarks. After the victim asked the assailant to leave, the suspect elbowed him in the chin, then punched and kicked him. Witnesses intervened and the suspect was last seen walking southbound on Commercial Drive. Police described this suspect as a man aged 40-50, about five-feet-seven inches tall, slim-built, wearing a grey dress shirt, tan pants, white shoes and a green cross-body bag.

Early-Evening Assault Near Burrard and West Georgia

At roughly 6:20 p.m., a 33-year-old resident walking westbound near Burrard and West Georgia streets was struck on the back by a man walking opposite. After a brief exchange of words, the suspect fled eastbound on West Georgia Street. Police identified the assailant as approximately five-feet-nine inches tall, with short black hair, a black beard, wearing a green winter jacket and carrying a black backpack.
