The Burglary and Immediate Police Response

Police were alerted at 04:32 BST on 14 August that a burglary was in progress at the Ann Summers store on Long Row in Nottingham city centre. Off-track CCTV later showed the two suspects breaking a window to gain entry while wearing high-visibility vests. Officers arrived within three minutes, intercepted the men as they attempted to flee, and detained them on suspicion of burglary. A search of the boot of Ashley Hillsley’s car uncovered Ann Summers merchandise—including lingerie and adult toys—valued at £12,059, according to Nottinghamshire Police.

Court Outcomes

Both offenders appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, 15 October. Jason Kamal, 48, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary covering the Ann Summers break-in and a separate theft at a mobile-phone shop. He received a three-year custodial sentence for the two offences. Ashley Hillsley, 21, of Big Barn Lane, Mansfield, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and was sentenced to a community order, a period of probation and 150 hours of unpaid work.

Prior Alleged Offence Involving Kamal

Nottinghamshire Police linked Kamal to an earlier burglary at Professional Mobile on Front Street in Arnold on 28 July. Investigators recovered a vape device bearing his DNA and identified a stolen mobile phone in his possession. The Arnold burglary yielded electronic equipment valued at approximately £13,000.
