Boil Water Advisory Affects 100 Homes in Calgary’s Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park
By Drooid · · How we work
Incident Overview
A boil-water advisory has been issued for roughly 100 homes and businesses in the Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park neighborhoods of Calgary. The advisory follows an unexpected depressurization of a water main that was undergoing planned repairs for the southwest communities. Alberta Health Services advised that water quality could not be guaranteed, prompting the precautionary order.
Cause and Immediate Response
City crews were conducting scheduled maintenance on a water main when the pipe lost pressure, preventing assurance of safe drinking water. Officials clarified that the issue is unrelated to concurrent work on the Bearspaw feeder main. To mitigate the problem, all southbound lanes of 14th Street between 75th Avenue S.W. and Heritage Drive S.W. have been closed until further notice while repairs continue.
Guidance for Residents
Affected residents are instructed to bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing infant formula, or making ice. Boiling is also required for water used to clean surfaces or wash dishes by hand. In-home water filters are deemed insufficient. The city will provide water wagons to supply safe water to those in the advisory zone.
Scope and Logistics
- Number of impacted properties: Approximately 100 homes and businesses.
- Road closures: All southbound lanes of 14th Street between 75th Avenue S.W. and Heritage Drive S.W. remain closed.
- Support services: Water distribution trucks are being deployed to deliver potable water to the affected area.
Outlook
Repairs to the compromised water main are ongoing, and the advisory will remain in effect until officials confirm that water pressure and quality have been fully restored. Residents are advised to stay updated through city communications for any changes to the advisory status or road closures.
