History

Historical Context

In 1999, the 49ers began their 50th NFL season under Steve Mariucci, but Steve Young’s Week 3 concussion and Garrison Hearst’s broken ankle in the playoff loss to Atlanta produced the franchise’s first losing record since 1980 and a missed postseason. The Broncos won Super Bowl XXXIII. Today, injuries to Mike Evans echo those past setbacks, showing health’s impact on a campaign.
