British Columbia Holds Municipal Elections Across the Province
By Drooid · · How we work
Election Day Overview
Residents of British Columbia are casting ballots in the province-wide municipal elections. Polling stations opened in the morning and will remain open until the evening, with voting hours running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific Time. Voters are selecting mayors, municipal councillors, regional district directors, school board trustees and park board members in communities ranging from Vancouver to Cultus Lake and the Islands Trust. The election is being covered live on Global BC television, radio and online platforms.
Eligibility Requirements
To vote, individuals must be at least 18 years old, hold Canadian citizenship and have lived in British Columbia for a minimum of six months immediately before registering. Voters must also be residents of the municipality or electoral area where they intend to vote and must not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other applicable law. Eligible electors residing on First Nations reserves retain the right to vote, and those without a fixed address—such as occupants of tiny homes or RVs—may register as resident electors in their usual municipality.
Voting Logistics and Advanced Voting
The province allows advanced voting, and recent reports indicate high participation in early-voting periods in cities such as Kelowna. Voters who are in line when a polling station closes are still permitted to cast their ballots. Local governments manage their own voting sites and provide information on locations, hours and voting procedures.
Media Coverage and Results Reporting
Global BC is providing comprehensive election coverage from 7 p.m. to midnight, including live broadcasts on television, radio and the Global BC YouTube channel. An interactive results table on the election website lets users select their municipality to view candidate lists and live vote tallies. Projected winners will appear automatically as results are confirmed, with the first updates expected shortly after polls close.
What Voters Can Expect
As polling stations close, vote counts will be compiled and posted in real time through the interactive platform. Voters can monitor the progress of mayoral and council races in their community, while media outlets continue to deliver analysis and updates throughout the evening.
