History

Historical Context

In September 2007, unranked FCS champion Appalachian State traveled to Ann Arbor and stunned No. 5 Michigan 34-32 before a crowd of 109,218. The loss made Michigan the second top-25 team ever toppled by an FCS opponent and prompted the AP to permit FCS schools in its poll. It opened a decade of rare FCS-over-FBS upsets.
