History

Historical Context

In 2011, the NFL and the NFL Players Association agreed to a $765 million settlement ending concussion lawsuits, prompting stricter safety rules. The agreement required the league to fund the Concussion Diagnosis and Management Program, which by 2022 had examined over 1,200 current players. Today's fines on Minkah Fitzpatrick and the Ravens’ reliance on backup Tyler Huntley echo the league’s intensified enforcement of safety and roster rules. Continued penalties and protocol adherence signal that player health and discipline will shape team strategies and league litigation for years ahead.
