History

Historical Context

On 15 June 1996 the IRA detonated a 3,300-pound truck bomb on Manchester’s Corporation Street, injuring more than 200 people and causing about £700 million in damage—the largest peacetime bomb in Britain since WWII. The attack prompted security reforms, including expanded CCTV and rapid-response units, a legacy echoed today as officers investigate a stabbing of a 14-year-old in the Arndale car park.
