History

Historical Context

The 1994 Major League Baseball strike, which began on August 12 1994, forced the cancellation of the World Series and halted postseason scheduling. Commissioner Fay Vincent, the MLB Players Association, and owners like the New York Yankees secured a 2-year pact that averted $300 million in losses. Today's rain-postponed ALCS games with Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians, and Brewers pitcher Drew Rasmussen mirror the 1994 disruption, when weather and labor reshuffled schedules. The 1994 strike taught MLB that labor stability and contingency planning are vital, prompting modern leagues to embed flexible rescheduling clauses to safeguard postseason integrity.
