History

Historical Context

In December 2015, ONE Championship banned dehydration weight-cutting after 21-year-old Yang Jian Bing died, prompting broader safety moves. Later that year UFC, led by Dana White, fined five fighters 20 % of their purses and barred them from title shots after multiple missed-weight bouts at UFC 188. The 2025 Brandon Figueroa miss echoes these earlier reforms, showing boxing commissions now enforce similar penalties.
