History

Historical Context

The ANZ Championship began in 2008 as a joint venture between Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand, merging the Commonwealth Bank Trophy and National Bank Cup into a ten-team Trans-Tasman league. New South Wales Swifts won the inaugural title on 28 July, and the competition ran until 2016 before splitting into Suncorp Super Netball and the ANZ Premiership. Its legacy underpins today’s Silver Ferns-Diamonds rivalry.
