History

Historical Context

After the September 11 attacks, President George W. Bush’s January 29 2002 State of the Union framed foreign terrorist threats as a domestic security crisis, leading the Department of Homeland Security to consolidate 22 agencies. The 2026 Trump video accusing Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed of Muslim-Brotherhood ties mirrors Bush’s earlier use of terror rhetoric to shape voter perception.
