History

Historical Context

The 1967 NFL Championship, known as the “Ice Bowl,” pitted the Green Bay Packers against the Dallas Cowboys in a frigid 13 °F (–25 °C) contest. Packers coach Vince Lombardi emphasized a power running game, yet the team rushed only 138 yards, while the Cowboys limited Green Bay to 21 points. Today’s matchup mirrors that historic duel, as the Packers again lead in passing yards while the Cowboys struggle defensively, ranking near the league’s bottom against the run. The Ice Bowl’s dramatic finish, culminating in Bart Starr’s quarterback sneak for a 21-17 victory, reminds fans that single-game tactics can reshape season trajectories.
