AI-Sector Sell-Off Highlights Two High-Growth Stocks
By Drooid · · How we work
Market Pullback and Investor Sentiment
After three years of strong gains, AI-related equities have entered a correction. The iShares Semiconductor ETF, which tracks leading AI-chip suppliers, has fallen more than 20 % from its June peak, dragging the Nasdaq-100 and S&P 500 lower and dampening overall market optimism. Analysts note that a broader market decline could create buying opportunities for select AI-adjacent companies.
Datadog: Rapid Revenue Growth but Elevated Valuation
Datadog (DDOG) reported that all ten of the AI industry’s leading firms were customers as of June 30, a group that likely includes Anthropic and OpenAI. Model Context Protocol server calls rose fourfold in Q2 2026 versus Q1, and revenue growth accelerated to 36 % year-over-year. Management lifted its 2026 revenue outlook by $140 million to a midpoint of $4.46 billion. Despite this momentum, the stock trades at a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 24.3, well above its three-year average of 17.7, suggesting a steep premium that may deter immediate purchases. The share price stood at $247.11, down 7.19 % on the day, with a market capitalization of $88.73 billion and a gross margin of 79.48 %.
Palo Alto Networks: Security Demand Fuels ARR Surge, Yet Price Remains High
Palo Alto Networks (PANW) highlighted the expanding attack surface created by enterprise AI deployments and positioned its Prisma AIR S and Cortex XSIAM platforms as defenses. The company disclosed that its next-generation security (NGS) portfolio generated $9 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) at the scheduled fiscal-year close of July 31, a 63 % increase from the prior year. Palo Alto projects NGS ARR could exceed $20 billion by fiscal 2030. The stock trades at a P/S ratio of 22.6, compared with a three-year average of 15.6, and was down 7.63 % at $342.00 with a market cap of $279.76 billion and a gross margin of 65 %.
Investor Takeaway
Both firms demonstrate strong growth tied to AI adoption, but their valuations remain markedly above historical norms. Analysts suggest that a further market correction of 20-30 % could present more attractive entry points for long-term investors, while current price premiums reflect continued optimism about AI-driven demand.
