History

Historical Context

On April 20 1999, seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher at Columbine High School, sparking nationwide gun-control debates and the “Columbine effect,” which has been linked to over 70 copycat attacks by 2025. The recent Silver Rail Elementary shooting, involving a teenage gunman and a pump-action shotgun, revives those debates, prompting renewed calls from Senator Ron Wyden for stricter safety laws.
