History

Historical Context

Florida’s 2005 Medicaid fraud case set a precedent for later disputes over state health funds. In 2021 Centene overbilled the state by $67 million, leading to a $57 million settlement that funded the Hope Florida Foundation, which diverted $10 million to political groups opposing 2024 Amendment 3. The scandal now fuels the 2026 Senate race between Ashley Moody and Angie Nixon.
