History

Historical Context

Barack Obama’s 2008 win in Florida, secured by a 2.8% margin—the first Democratic presidential victory there since 1976—relied on 96% of African-American, 57% of Latino and 52% of independent voters. That narrow swing helped deliver a Democratic trifecta for the first time since 1992, illustrating the state’s swing-state pattern that progressive challengers reference today.
