History

Historical Context

After the 2011 antitrust settlement that ended the lockout—approved 31-0-1 by owners—and added stricter health provisions to the new CBA, the NFL has emphasized player safety. That shift underlies the New York Giants’ 2026 signing of cornerback Greg Newsome, showing teams now balance injury risk with roster needs in the modern era.
