History

Historical Context

The New England Patriots’ 2001 Super Bowl XXXVI victory, secured on February 3 2001 under head coach Bill Belichick, ended a 19-year championship drought. Quarterback Tom Brady, then a rookie, threw for 236 yards and a touchdown, while the team posted an 11-5 regular-season record. Similarly, in the 2024 matchup, quarterback Drake Maye recorded 235 passing yards and three touchdowns, significantly echoing Brady’s early-career impact. These parallels suggest the Patriots’ resurgence can dramatically revive AFC East competition, potentially challenging the Buffalo Bills’ dominance and shaping future playoff prospects.
