History

Historical Context

On 12 August 1997, Mumbai mafia D-Company assassinated music mogul Gulshan Kumar, founder of T-Series, outside his Andheri temple, shooting him 18 times. His death came after T-Series grew from a 1983 cassette-piracy start to a market leader with soundtracks like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Aashiqui (1990), which sold 20 million copies. The murder underscored underworld infiltration of Bollywood.
