History

Historical Context

In 1994 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services exposed a Florida Medicaid fraud that diverted $1.5 billion, leading Inspector General Carol H. Williams to seek $200 million in illegal reimbursements and prompting 1995 reforms that tightened Medicaid auditing. Nixon’s allegation that $10 million from a settlement was funneled to Ron DeSantis-linked slush funds revives those concerns, drawing scrutiny of Attorney General Ashley Moody and DeSantis administration.
