By Drooid · · How we work
Scope and Details of the Affected Products
Kayem Foods Inc. is recalling roughly 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry that were produced at its Chelsea, Massachusetts facility from March 31 through early October. The recall covers hot dogs, bacon, deli meats, bratwursts, kielbasa, cocktail franks, bologna, chicken sausage and other items sold under brand names including Kayem, Specialty Products, Al Fresco, Triple M, McKenzie, Deutschmacher, Jordan’s, Essem and Winnisimmet. Products were shipped to retailers and food-service locations across the United States and to Hong Kong. Each item bears USDA establishment numbers “EST. M/P 7839,” “EST. P 20935A” or “EST. M 9520” within the inspection mark.
Agency Guidance and Company Response
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the recall after Kayem Foods reported that a warehouse cooler experienced temperature deviations, prompting a customer to note warm deliveries in early October. FSIS advises consumers not to eat the recalled items, to discard them, or to return them to the point of purchase. The agency also warned that some products may still be in household refrigerators.
Consumer Impact and Safety Recommendations
No illnesses have been reported to date. FSIS recommends that anyone who believes they may have consumed a recalled product contact a health-care provider. Retailers are instructed to remove the affected stock from shelves and to follow recall procedures outlined by the agency.
Next Steps for Retailers and Consumers
Kayem Foods is cooperating with federal officials to trace distribution and to ensure that all recalled items are removed from the market. Consumers are encouraged to verify product details—such as brand name, package label and UPC code—against the recall list before discarding or returning items. Ongoing monitoring by FSIS will determine whether additional actions are required.
