Summary

Evans Joins 49ers

Evans left the Buccaneers after a 12-year tenure following the team’s 8-9 record in 2025.
He said San Francisco ‘checked every box,’ giving him chance to extend his career and chase Hall of Fame legacy.
Since joining, the 49ers are 5-0 while Tampa Bay has fallen to 1-5.
The Buccaneers have relied on Godwin, Egbuka and younger players to replace Evans as No. 1 receiver.

History

Historical Context

Randy Moss’s 2007 trade to the New England Patriots—completed on April 29—sparked a 16-0 regular season and a record-tying 23 touchdown catches, proving an elite receiver can instantly revamp an offense. That precedent underlies the 2025 free-agent move of Mike Evans to the San Francisco 49ers, whose veteran-led attack began 5-0, echoing Moss’s transformative impact.
