History

Historical Context

Apple’s 2007 iPhone, unveiled by Steve Jobs after a three-year, $150 million Project Purple effort led by Tony Fadell and Jony Ive, replaced the button-heavy phones of the early 2000s with a 4 GB, $499 multi-touch device that sold over one million units in three weeks. That touch-first breakthrough paved the way for today’s October 28 2026 Los Angeles launch of a touchscreen MacBook Pro.
