History

Historical Context

In 1995, Bobby Cox’s Atlanta Braves swept the NLCS, with relievers led by closer Mark Wohlers posting a 1.00 ERA over 36 innings and 40 strikeouts—a hallmark of the post-strike, expanded-postseason era. The 2024 Milwaukee Brewers replicated that bullpen-driven sweep, posting a 1.33 ERA and matching the four-win reliever record, underscoring baseball’s shift toward dominant relief corps.
