History

Historical Context

On July 20 2012, James Eagan Holmes opened fire in Aurora, Colorado, killing 12 and wounding 70 during a midnight showing of *The Dark Knight Rises*. The attack prompted nationwide gun-policy debates and new theater security measures. Illinois investigators handling today’s five-victim Wellington Avenue murders cite Aurora’s complex forensic response as a model for coordinated state resources.
